It’s common knowledge that many health practitioners are great at what they do, that is, working with clients and providing important health related services, but they may struggle with the marketing or the day to day running of their business. I’ve met several small business owners who have seen significant success by delegating tasks to others with expertise in these areas, allowing them to more effectively market and sell their products and services.
As I’ve discussed in other CatScribe articles, your website provides a first impression which can impact session duration, engagement, call to action, and even trust in you as a health professional. You’ll want your website to connect with your intended clients, offer them information on and insight into the services you provide, the product you sell, or the type of business you run. After all, marketing and selling is about how something makes us feel. Whether it is a brand, product, or treatment, if we can create connection through the words used, then success will follow.
Why am I able to write about health and wellness?
There are a couple of reasons why I’ve become good at writing about health and wellness.
Firstly, my original education and training background was in applied sciences in health care, followed by an extensive career in the community services sector. Working with people with disability, youth, parents, carers, school counsellors, respite services. Developing recreational programs, sourcing employment opportunities, providing on the job training, allocating funding, and arranging services. My role included community development, setting up networking opportunities, and promoting various programs.
During the next 15 years I was writing website pages for a wellness centre, blog posts, email newsletters, designing flyers, producing a policy and procedure manual and developing other content. All the while expanding my knowledge in health and wellness related topics and interacting with various allied health and alternative therapy practitioners.
I’ve also provided content creation for an aged care consultant’s website and produced handouts and presentation material for a retirement complex. Others engaged my services to edit written assignments, letters and documents.
Through my work experience, I gained valuable exposure to both marketing and customer service, developing skills in communication, client engagement, and promotional strategy.
In addition to my professional experience, I’ve faced my own personal health challenges. This journey has given me valuable insight into the importance of accurate, user friendly, and accessible health information. I spent years researching treatment options, seeking out health professionals, reading online reviews, and exploring websites to understand the kind of care being offered and how patients are treated. The knowledge and perspective I’ve gained from these experiences deeply informs the work I do for others.
